Newsflash 6th July 2010!
(From Kay Taylor)

We are delighted to announce that the JWAAD Foundation Course is now accredited by the National Open College Network.

JWAAD has been recognised as a centre to deliver NOCN qualifications.

We are continuing to work with NOCN to have the whole Diploma Course accredited.

If you have already successfully completed the JWAAD Foundation Course but would like to resubmit your work and have it certified through NOCN, we are looking at ways to do this.  We will send out information to all Foundation qualified teachers as we have it.

Any JWAAD Foundation courses run from September 2010 will be in a slightly different format and participants will have the choice of submitting their portfolio of work for external verification and a certificate issued by the National Open College Network.

It has taken us several years to get to this stage and be able to announce this exciting news.

The module is now called 'Safe Delivery of Belly Dance Classes' and will be a pre-requisite to continuing to the rest of the 'JWAAD Teacher Training Course'.

It is a L3 qualification - which means the content is to 'A' level standard.

If you haven't heard of the JWAAD Foundation Course, there is some information below about the course and planned dates.

The JWAAD Foundation Course

As previously, we like to stress that, by itself, this is not a teaching qualification, it is a Foundation course which must be completed by those wanting to apply to study the JWAAD Teaching Diploma.  Many people also find it useful as a stand alone qualification as it includes all the information required to teach safely.

People recognised as JWAAD teachers are those who have completed the full JWAAD Diploma.

The Foundation Course includes:

Anatomy
Safe warmups
Health and Safety
Safe stretches and cool downs
Lesson planning
Professionalism and Administration modules
Dance classes in technique and breaking down moves
Three assignments, a personal technique assessment and a practical warm up assessment.

Comments from participants:

'It was a lot of hard work and quite stressful but I got so much out of it.'

'It confirmed that a lot of what I was already doing was correct and gave me lots of new ideas.'

'I am considering teaching and did this course to help me decide - it has really made me think about my responsibilities as a teacher.'

'The assessments were terrifying but I feel like I now know what I need to work on.'

'Loved every minute of it, learnt so much and met some really nice people.  Far exceeded my expectations.'
