Oriental Dancer is the "daughter" site of the
Lincolnshire Belly Dancer website.
Lincolnshirebellydancer.co.uk was launched on the 1st of January 2006 and never intended to grow beyond the county. That website was the result of my lovely wife "dropping me in it." Connie was a new belly dancer and I'd bought tickets to a Tarab performance in Gainsborough as a surprise. After the show we got talking with our neighbours in the theatre (who were established dancers) and discussing the difficulty she'd had in finding a teacher and in finding out about events. As they sympathised one of them said "We really need a website..." Connie's eyes lit up and before I could stop her the fatal words were out: "Mark does websites!" The rest, as they say, is history.
Over the years that site grew and became a valued part of the Lincolnshire belly dance scene. Connie grew as a dancer and we travelled further afield to attend shows, haflas and workshops. We made friends with dancers outside our area and started including them in the "Out of Area" section of our teacher listings. More of our network of friends started asking to be listed or to have links to their websites and our site statistics started showing more "hits" from around the British Isles (and the world) than from within the county. Thus was conceived the idea of expanding our horizons, this new website has been through many months of gestation and it is with no small amount of regret that we have decided to retire Lincolnshire belly dancer and allow her daughter to take over the lead. We just don't have the time available to run two websites on a volunteer basis. So....
Orientaldancer.co.uk has been set up to provide information and support for belly dancers and belly dance teachers in the British Isles. We're not "precious" about this goal and will happily co-operate with other websites with similar aims.
Getting this site to it's full potential will take time, we can't list all the information until we've found it! YOU can help by spreading the word to your belly dancing friends and by emailing the webmaster with any information you think is appropriate and helpful. The more reader participation we get the faster we'll be able to reach our goal and become more useful than a really useful thing.
Any belly dance teacher (of whatever genre, Classical, Cabaret, Egyptian, Turkish, Fusion, Tribal, Gothic etc.) is welcome to submit their contact information and a short biography for inclusion or to list their haflas and workshops. We will also link to any suitable belly dance related website or shop that is brought to our attention ...
and it's free!!
We also welcome readers' submissions of original articles on belly dance related subjects, reviews of haflas, shows and workshops, photos, artwork, poetry and pretty much anything related to belly dance. Credit will be given for all submissions.
We don't pay for articles etc at this stage because we have yet to make a profit or even to come remotely close to paying our expenses. This website is a labour of love but we'd be delighted if it generates advertising revenue and website business to offset our outlay and maybe support my wife's belly dance bling addiction. :-)
