www.angeltrim.com review.

Angeltrim.com is an American website selling glittery bits and trim for home sewers who want to add lots of "bling" to their costumes without the grief. Connie was given the address of the site by our friend Siobhan and I initially discounted the idea because postage from the USA often makes items too expensive, I confess to being wrong!

When Connie first went to the site she was like a kid locked into a toy store. She has a couple of costumes she's been working on and adding ebay sequin strings to over the last 6 to 9 months but progress is slow as it takes a lot of time to pin sequin strings on to get the right pattern... then to adjust the pattern because it doesn't live up to what she had in her mind's eye. Then of course, it turns out to be in the wrong position by a couple of inches and she has to start all over again (and she tells me she enjoys sewing???). The appliques from Angeltrim take the grief out of the process and allow you to get professional looking results in a matter of hours instead of months. They also lower inter-familial stress levels!

The web site is well laid out, simple and easy to use. You have thumbnail images of the various items with a description and a price, if you click on the thumbnail image you get a larger image that gives a pretty good idea of what the item will look like when it arrives. It has a fairly standard online shopping cart that gives you the chance to load it up then go back and add or remove items before going to the checkout where they figure out the total plus your postage. Payment is by Paypal and you can choose to use your Paypal account if you have one or if you don't you can choose to pay by credit or debit card. Some people don't like Paypal but I've used them for years without having any problems.

The best bit came when I took a look at the site to see what Connie was raving about and discovered that they offer free postage on orders over US$100. I immediately checked Connie's shopping cart and told her she had to spend more. Did she like that suggestion? Is the Pope Catholic?

With the current (Feb 2008) US dollar to pound exchange rate she got lots of "bling" that she probably couldn't have found even with a trip to London and two days hunting through craft shops and at a price she'd be lucky to beat in the UK so the order was duly placed.

A couple of days after placing the order I received an email from Eric at Angeltrim telling me the order had been dispatched and approximately when to expect it.

The package arrived 10 days after placing the order and I was a little surprised to note that it came from Hong Kong and not from the USA. When I thought about it I realised that all this stuff is made in China anyway so why should Eric pay for it to be shipped to the USA, stored in expensive US warehouse space and then pay expensive US workers to pack and ship through what may be the world's most expensive postal system? Shipping it direct from Hong Kong is logical and helps him keep his prices down as well as cutting down the carbon footprint. I approve; even the shipping note was printed on recycled paper!

All in all a very positive experience and Connie and I are happy to recommend www.Angeltrim.com. The items that arrived looked like the items that were ordered and we're very pleased with the quality.
