Belly Dance Boulevard Review
By Connie Hurd
Have you been to Belly Dance Boulevard yet? If so, I’m sure you’ll agree, it might become one of your favourite places on the web. Let me take you on a quick guided tour!
When you arrive on the home page, everything is clearly laid out so you can quickly access the Online Video Lessons, Articles, Video Gallery, and Boutique. It also has a teacher directory where teachers from all over the world can be listed and a new events section where teachers can list their own events. The very best feature of the site is that Tamar, the site owner, is responsive to us, the visitors, and responds to our comments, questions, and requests.
My favourite section of the site is the online video lessons in which Tamar teaches one belly dance move in each short video, showing many variations and traveling steps that can be used with that move. She uploads a new lesson every few weeks. Her written commentary below the video clip references the music she dances to in that video clip and she explains some of the history of the artist and the style of music. She gives the name of the artist, the song, and the album from which the song comes which is a great help to all of us who want to learn more and get our hands on that same music! Tamar then follows up her video lesson with a related video clip of a famous belly dancer or of a singer or musician. This is a very helpful, educational, and inspirational source of learning dance as well as learning about the music, some of its history, and dance history.
The video archive is growing and in it you will find clips of classic stars, modern stars, and all kinds of belly dance videos including saidi, drum solos, dancing with props, tribal style belly dance and more! This is a treasure trove to which we all have instant access.
The articles by various dancers about belly dance are good reading and cause me to think more deeply about dance and its many-faceted effects on our lives.
The boutique carries a range of items from CDs, and DVDs to designer hip scarves, full dance costumes and props.
So, if you haven’t been there yet, take a stroll down Bellydance Boulevard. If you have been there already, maybe it’s time to view the most recent online dance lesson!
This is a superb, wide-scoped, practical and educational website for belly dancers. Bravo Tamar and team for your marvelous contribution to the worldwide belly dance community. You are appreciated.
(Please note that the BDB website has grown and improved since this review was written.)
