Aarti J                                          (Leicester)
Connie and I met the owners of this souk at the Rufford Park Belly Dance Festival.
Meera has a shop in Leicester at 5C Sawday Street, LE2 7JW (Tel: 07908 850640) Meera and her daughters sell an assortment of Indian jewellery, bindis, manufactured belly dance clothing etc but makes more by hand too. We were most impressed with some of her highly decorated bra tops etc. If you prefer to make your own and just be inspired by her craftsmanship that's fine as they'll also happily sell you all the beads and glittery bits etc etc. Meera (mum) is a lovely, friendly and cheerful woman and will happily travel with her souk to haflas and workshop weekends. email: artij@hotmail.co.uk
Meera and daughters now also offers workshops on creating your own belly dance costumes and will bring along all the glitter, bling and glam you need to decorate your basics.
NEWS!! They now have a website! www.aartij.com

Salamander                                       (Lincoln)
Salamander is at number 6, Park St, Lincoln, near Fry's Jewellers. Park Street is that little alleyway off the High Street opposite Ruddocks. They sell "Alternative and Gothic clothing and jewellery" but don't let that frighten you, they don't bite! Some of their clothing and veils would be suitable for Middle Eastern dancing, especially Tribal style. Also some of their jewellery is very middle eastern in flavour and sometimes they have coin belts. Phone 01522 524801

A smallish looking shop in a grotty part of town. Inside it's like the TARDIS with more fabric than the average giant warehouse. Loads of bolt ends and discontinued items to trip over mixed in with top of the line fabrics including shiny lycra and other stuff suitable for belly dancers. WARNING! allow yourself plenty of time, the owner (a nice chap) can talk the hind legs of a whole herd of donkeys!

Afifi Bellydance Shop               LEEDS

Call 0113 380 4936
This shop has an excellent reputation and has been around for quite some time but as I've never been there I can't comment. Afifi himself is usually at all the big events with his souk. If you'd like him to bring his stuff to your event there's no harm in asking him!
