Veil workshop with Shiméa
By Trish Champion
Fay Lowe, our local double veil queen, recently offered some workshops where she promised to share her tips and tricks, so I duly trotted over to Broughton to find out how its really done. There were 2 workshops, the first open level giving veil handling tips as well as advice on how to fit veil movements and tricks into a piece of music. I found out how to do the windmill properly, so now it wont wind itself round my arm. Result one! The second workshop was double veil. Now I’ve done a double veil workshop before and even at the time it seemed complicated and hard work. Fay showed us the easy way to hold the veils without dropping them, get in and out without getting tangled up, and so much more. I felt a real sense of achievement when my veils split properly. I’m pretty sure I’ll just stick to the one veil, but at least I know a bit more than I did before! A big thank you to Fay for sharing her skills and knowledge. When (note the “when”, Fay) she does them again, I recommend you go along. Well worth the trip.
